About the Founder: Forged in High-Stakes Tactical Performance
Watson Berreman MS, CSCS
As a former competitive athlete and California native, Coach Berreman holds a Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Human Performance from the University of Florida. He has had the privilege to work as a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach in NCAA Division One collegiate athletics, professional soccer, the U.S. Army, the Massachusetts National Guard, and Home Base in Boston, MA.
Mountain Bear Strength Systems was founded with one clear mission: to bring elite, professional-grade tactical programming to motivated individuals ready to climb to their next peak. Whether preparing to join the military, looking to crush a fitness assessment, or aiming to secure a spot in an elite army school, athletes find the ultimate strategic blueprint here.
The core methodology isn’t just based on textbook theories. It was forged in the high-stakes environments of NCAA Division I Athletics and directly on the training grounds of the United States Army.
The JBLM Experience: Training the Tomahawks: At Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Coach Berreman served as the strength and conditioning authority for the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment "Tomahawks" under the 1-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT).
In this role, Coach Berreman was responsible for the physical readiness, combat lethality, and injury resilience of over 800 soldiers across 5 distinct companies. Working with a full conventional infantry battalion required designing structured physical systems that delivered measurable results.
Key focus areas included:
ACFT Mastery: Implementing systematic progressions to scale battalion-wide Army Combat Fitness Test scores.
Special Schools Prep: Conditioning candidates to survive and excel in high-stakes selections, including Ranger School, Sniper School, Air Assault, and the Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB).
Tactical Longevity: Integrating specialized Pre-hab and Pillar Prep protocols to keep active-duty operators durable, resilient, and off the profile list.
Leading from the Front: A great coach should never prescribe a workload they aren't willing to execute themselves. To earn the trust and respect of the infantrymen in training, Coach Berreman held themselves to the exact same uncompromising standards:
Maxing the ACFT: Personally achieving a flawless 600-point maximum score on the Army Combat Fitness Test.
Sustaining the Grind: Strapping on full gear to successfully complete a grueling 23-mile ruck movement alongside the battalion.
Why Choose Mountain Bear Strength Systems? When training with this system, athletes aren't getting generic fitness routines. They are leveraging a tactical blueprint that has been tested and proven where performance matters most. From future recruits preparing for basic training, to active-duty operators tracking promotion points, or garage-gym athletes looking for structure, this is the map you have been looking for.
